Un racconto di natale ambientato in una sauna e con gli zombie. Jacob (Tom Frederic) è un insensibile narcisista che frequenta le saune alla ricerca della sua prossima preda. Quando si trova circondato da zombie, si rende conto che la sua sopravvivenza dipende da una cosa che non ha mai cercato: un rapporto umano.
Il film prende ispirazione dall’uomo medio che utilizza Grindr e dall’idea della sauna come il suo piccolo mondo. Tom Frederic esordisce alla regia con una favola dei nostri giorni che esplora come il modo in cui trattiamo gli altri contribuisca a creare il mondo in cui viviamo.
Biografia del regista
Tom Frederic è metà danese e metà tedesco ed è nato e cresciuto in Giappone. Japan. Si è trasferito in UK nel 1996 ed ha studiato recitazione al LAMDA. Ha lavorato in teatro, TV e cinema con un ruolo da protagonista in Blood Trails (2006) e Wrong Turn 3 (2009) prodotto dalla 20th Century Fox’s. E’ un montatore autodidatta per esigenze di budget. Ha montato il documentario This is not a Dream presentato al London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival nel 2012 e in altri festival in tutto il mondo. Sauna The Dead – A Fairy Tale è il suo primo film da regista e sceneggiatore.
A fable in the vein of A Christmas Carol, set in a gay sauna, with zombies. Jacob (Tom Frederic) is a jaded narcissist who stalks the bathhouse halls looking for his next hookup. When he finds himself amid a zombie outbreak, his survival may depend on the one thing he didn’t come for: a human connection.
The film is inspired by mean guys on Grindr and the idea of the sauna as its own little world. Fusing a love of 80s fantasy adventure movies, Disney and zombies, first-time writer/director Tom Frederic presents a genre-hopping modern day fairy tale exploring how the way we treat each other creates the worlds we live in.
Director’s biography
Tom Frederic is half-Danish, half-German and was born and raised in Japan. He moved to the UK in 1996 and trained as an actor at LAMDA. He has worked in theatre, TV and film, including lead roles in two horror films, Blood Trails (2006) and 20th Century Fox’s Wrong Turn 3 (2009). He taught himself editing at home to save money on cutting his own, and friends’ acting reels. Subsequently he edited the documentary This is not a Dream which screened at the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival in 2012 and internationally. Sauna The Dead – A Fairy Tale is his first film as writer-director.
